Insulin Resistance and Fatigue
Paul A. Berez, M.D.
There are many causes of fatigue - insulin resistance is one of them.
The most likely reasons are elevated levels of inflammatory mediators, such as TNFalpha, and interleukins 1, 2 and 6 (1,2). Some of these mediators are increased simply by being obese, with weight loss increasing levels of favorable mediators, such as adiponectin and prostacycline. Thiazolidinediones (Avandia and Actos) directly decrease the effects of the above inflammatory mediators (3,4,5).
